The seed we sow:

In 2024, the HAOP Board of Directors directed its mission to the resilient community of El Tambo, nestled within the Llacanora district of Cajamarca, Peru. The initial vision was ambitious: to install a geomembrane liner in a crucial community dam. This infrastructure project aimed to secure vital irrigation water, directly benefiting 128 households facing the harsh realities of drought. However, the project's estimated cost, exceeding $113,000 USD, proved insurmountable for HAOP's resources.

The sweet taste of accomplishment

Undeterred, HAOP pivoted to a sustainable solution: empowering El Tambo with the tools for self-sufficiency. Through the National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA), HAOP procured high-quality, improved seeds. Specifically, white and purple corn varieties were chosen for their versatility, market demand, and nutritional value. Fertilizer were also purchased and donated.

On September 24, 2024, a team from HAOP, alongside dedicated community members, embarked on a journey to acquire and deliver these essential resources. The arrival in El Tambo was met with an outpouring of warmth and gratitude. Smiles, embraces, and heartfelt expressions of hope underscored the profound impact of this support.

The initial planting faced a challenging hurdle: an extended dry spell. But the spirit of El Tambo remained unbroken. When the rains finally arrived, the community seized the opportunity, demonstrating remarkable determination and agricultural expertise. The fields transformed into a vibrant tapestry of flourishing corn, a testament to their perseverance and the seeds of hope planted by HAOP.

This mission transcends a simple donation; it represents a partnership in resilience. By providing the means for sustainable agriculture, HAOP has empowered El Tambo to cultivate not just crops, but a brighter future.

HAOP extends its deepest gratitude to its generous sponsors and friends, whose unwavering support makes these impactful missions possible. Your contributions have sown seeds of hope and are now yielding a harvest of tangible change in the lives of the El Tambo community.

Thank you.
